How to take care of your bras

Tips and tricks to make your bras last longer

Guilty of throwing your bras in the washing machine? Or folding them in half and stuffing them in your drawer? Here are some tips and tricks on washing, drying and caring for your bras to ensure they last longer.

What's the best way to wash a bra?

Bras will last longer if you take good care of them and it's important to read the wash and care labels to ensure you get maximum wear. A warm hand wash is the best way to ensure your bras last longer, but if you're in a hurry, a gentle machine wash - using a lingerie bag - will work just fine.

Can you tumble dry bras?

Always air-dry! Tumble dryers can actually break down the elastic, causing it to shrink or fall apart. Instead, hang them outside on the line, in the shade, so they don’t lose their colour.

What's the best way to store bras?

Lie them flat - never folded in half - with cups inside of each other to help them hold their shape.

How often should you replace your bra?

A general rule of thumb is that if you're wearing your bra on the tightest hook, and it's still riding up your back, throw it out!

"I tend to update my bra collection every 6-9 months," says Elle. "Best trick is to get a matching bra and knicker for every day of the week and keep refreshing your wardrobe so they look bright and stay supportive."
